Treats facial frown lines effectively, no down time, see results within 5 days, lasts up to 4 months!

As we age our skin loose it’s collagen integrity and become less elastic, resulting in more visible and deeper lines and wrinkles around our face. This is more prominent in the areas where we use repetitive muscle movements for example laughing and frowning, in other words where we use daily habitual facial expressions.

Botulinum toxin type A is a protein that was already discovered in 1899 and has since been purified for the use in medical and cosmetic procedures. It was originally discovered after epidemics of food poisoning and the causative agent that was identified was a bacterium named Clostridium botulinum. Botulinum toxin used extensively throughout the cosmetic industry today, is injected as a liquid chemical without this active bacterium, to temporarily relax (immobilise) muscles and is not a poisonous substance anymore.

It is used as a minimal invasive cosmetic procedure as an alternative to plastic surgery to enhance facial features. The product should typically last an average of 3-4 months, but this may vary from person to person, depending much on the technique of the operator, which area it was administered in and how many units were used initially.

Because Botulinum toxin prevents muscle activity by blocking acetylcholine (the neurotransmitter that causes muscles to contract) it effectively weakens/ temporarily paralyzes (immobilizes) the muscles where injected. The most commonly requested procedures generally include forehead lines, crow’s feet (on the side of the eyes) and the glabella region ( frown area between the eyebrows). it relaxes the muscles with a reactive relaxing result on the skin.

Many formal trials and studies have been done to ensure that it has no adverse or toxic effects. It has no long-term negative side effects on the skin except being largely accepted as part of normal skin care prevention and maintenance. It has been shown that with long term use of the product in a specific area, that area generally shows visible signs of anti-ageing (delayed ageing) with time.

Botox treatments should only be performed by a qualified and registered medical doctor who has been professionally trained on how to administer and apply Botulinum toxin correctly. There is little down time associated to Botox treatments and patients can return to their usual routine immediately after. In most cases the “little red dots” formed afterwards will disappear within a few minutes. It is advisable to avoid steaming and vigorous exercise 24 hrs post treatment. It is not allowed to fly within this same period.
